RICHMOND COUNTY OFFICIALS WELCOME AMERICAN WOODMARKS PLANS FOR EXPANSION OF HAMLET FACILITY

$40 Million Project Builds on an Already-Strong 2022

Hamlet, N.C. – October 18, 2022. American Woodmark Corporation (NASDAQ: AMWD), one of the nations largest manufacturers of cabinets will expand their Hamlet footprint, nearly doubling the size of their existing facility.  The Virginia-based maker of cabinetry for home builders, independent dealers, and distributors, will expand their manufacturing site in Hamlet which will serve its growing East Coast market. The company plans to invest over $40 million in the facility, which will add an additional 131 jobs and will grow their total headcount to exceed 370 team members. The American Woodmark Hamlet plant will be one of the largest manufacturing sites in the region boasting over 600,000 sq ft of manufacturing space once completed.

"Richmond County is fast becoming the envy of rural counties in NC, and we are pleased to welcome the expansion of American Woodmark.  This announcement represents a major commitment by American Woodmark in expansion dollars and job creation. Richmond County has forged solid relationships with the NC Department of Commerce, and we are pleased to partner with them in a project of this magnitude.  With a focus on economic development, building infrastructure and education, Richmond County has positioned itself as a serious contender for continued business growth and expansion." --Commissioner Rick Watkins

“American Woodmark’s presence in the community is already great with nearly 250 team members from the surrounding area and its charity through their foundation.  As a native of Richmond County, I am excited about what this investment means to the community and people.  Our leadership looks forward to a bright future for the people in our community and for American Woodmark.” Anthony Nessell, Director of Operations, Hamlet Plant

“Job creation is still all about the fundamentals, and our county’s fundamentals are strong,” said Jeff Smart, chairman of the Richmond County Board of Commissioners. “They include affordable costs, available sites and buildings, and close proximity to major consumer markets.”

American Woodmark’s choice of Richmond County, announced earlier today by Governor Roy Cooper, is the county’s fourth major win in 2022. Since January, Mount Vernon Mills, Impact Plastics and Cavco have also launched major business plans here.

“We’re having a solid year,” said Richmond County Manager Bryan Land. “The success we’re seeing in our job growth efforts is the result of a strong spirit of collaboration that exists in Richmond County -- from the terrific customer service companies get from our economic development program to the excellent workforce training they receive from Richmond County Schools & Richmond Community College.”
